Expect continued experimentation with varieties beyond Cabernet and Zinfandel. The conditions that make Chiles Valley marginal for mainstream Napa viticulture (the elevation, the cooling, the volcanic soils) are precisely what make it interesting for varieties that struggle in hotter sites.
Land prices remain relatively accessible compared to prestigious valley-floor appellations, attracting younger winemakers and investors willing to farm challenging terrain for distinctive results. This could lead to a renaissance of small, terroir-focused producers over the next decade.
