The 2004 Petrus shows restraint rather than exuberance, moving gracefully into its secondary phase with tobacco, warm earth and violet perfume. Red fruit remains at the core, but there's a conservative quality that suggests limited upside potential. The structure is sound with fine-grained tannins, yet it lacks the depth and complexity that defines great Petrus vintages. Drinking well now with no compelling reason to hold longer.
